WFR

WFR = Wilderness First Responder

I had my first WFR class last night. Its intense. Probably the first time in my life that I have been scared to introduce myself. This is from the fact that everyone before me has some medical background or has dealt with a trauma situation as too me who is like "Im an art student whose medical background is that I can put a band aid on?". However my teacher is cool and understands that the classroom knowledge goes from those who can out band aids on to working EMTs. 2 nights a week 4 hours 2 month long class. So Im going to be jam pack with info and situations. This will be one interesting class.

Becoming a Yogi or a Yogi Bear.....

I started my Yoga class this week. It was a good life choice. My teacher seems intense but its yoga so Im not too worried. I really enjoy my intro to education teacher. He's from Wisconsin thus making us best friends. Due to this current week of turning 21 and a hectic work week last I unfortunately have not been able to get out hiking but next week after Murphi Gras I plan on getting a good system down :)
Also, while walking around SCC this morning the Parks & Rec people had a table set up encouraging people to join their activities. I introduced myself to the girl who turns out to be in my Wilderness First Responder class (this made me happy to know I wont be the only girl)

Third Time Is The Charm!

This morning I had the day off so I thought I'd "stride out"(defined: to take long steps key when hiking) aka go for longer distance. My good friend Carolyn had given me a trail map of where I should go on SM which equals about 4miles. Today I did it! It felt really good. Mostly flat but minimum elevation is involved its a good balance for weekly training :) I think Feb I will start introducing weight on my back

Waiting For My Letter From Hogwarts

Workout Update:
In anticipation for my upcoming classes I thought it was a good idea to start getting acquired with the South Mountain trails aka "home base" Im going with the goal right now of telling myself 4-5 miles a week whether that be 2 miles 2 times or all at once. After my second trip to SM this morning Im beginning to feel more comfortable. Mentally Im excited and in it to win it but physically.... my body is not so excited which is making me worried for the first few weeks of exercise classes :/ Im more scared for hurting myself by pushing to hard. Slow and steady wins the race.... right?

Philmont Update:
The waiting game is KILLING me! I find myself sitting by the window like a puppy waiting for its owner. Except the owner is a mailman. Not to mention all this constant talk that surrounds me of how wonderful and life changing Philmont is you would think they are talking about Hogwarts. No word until this evening. An e-mail reminding me that I applied and they will now start the hiring process from January to April (APRIL?!?!!?) and that I need to reply confirming my choices (1. Ranger 2. Astrology 3. Conservation Educator) This is not calming my nerves. I JUST WANT TO KNOW!

It's Only The Beginning...

This is the start of my blog that I hope to document this upcoming semester of my training and exploring of becoming a wilderness ranger this summer for Philmont scout ranch along with self discovering of the possibility of switching my major to Parks and Recreation instead of Art Education. PLEASE do not judge my grammar and or spelling because most likely these will be run on thoughts thus you will get run on sentences. haha :)
